ABOUT US
STAGEWORKS was formed as a company of scenery builders and suppliers of stages and stage equipment. However the company has gone on to produce whole shows or supply other aspects of shows for a number of well-known clients.
Gerry Dunn and David Handley, both of whom have been involved in the entertainment world for over 15 years, became partners in 1997.
Gerry came to South Africa in 1979 after completing his training as a carpenter in his home country of Scotland.
He gained valuable experience as a Stage Manager and Stage Carpenter for Sun International at the Wild Coast Sun from 1985 until 1993 with Las Vegas shows “SPELLBOUND” and “LEGENDS IN CONCERT” as well as Extravaganzas “MOVIN” and “SHOWSTOPPER”.
Gerry also worked on many local productions such as Geoffrey Southerland’s “AINT MISBEHAVIN” and numerous Carlo Spetto and Peter Torien Productions.
He moved to Gallagher Estate in Johannesburg for four years, working with almost every Technical Production Company in town.
David came to South Africa in 1983 from an engineering background in England and joined the Sun City Extravaganza Theatre in 1984.
He spent 10 years within the Sun International group as Stage Manager at Sun City, Technical Manager at the Wild Coast and Production Manager at Entertainment Head Office working with some world renowned designers and directors.
The highlights of his career were working with The Rolling Stones and Pavarotti when they came to South Africa and as Production Manager on three Miss World Pageants and four Sun City Extravaganzas.
